Welcome to the HTML Tutorial

Listen to the Welcome Message in AU format.

Welcome to the HTML tutorial. HTML or HyperText Markup Language is used to create documents on the World Wide Web. Formatting codes called tags are embedded in your text. These tags are interpreted by the client, or user browser, formatting your document for the viewing of the user. You may use any standard ASCII text editor to create your document.

In addition to the discussion of text formatting, we will discuss two other features of HTML.

First, you can embed media files into your document. These files include audio files such as this one, images, and video. In this course we will only discuss the image files.

The second feature that we will study is the ability to reference documents found anywhere on the World Wide Web. This second feature is the main reason for the development of the World Wide Web, and it is very powerful.

I hope that you find this tutorial useful in your study of HTML.
